Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: With the festive season fast approaching, the Tirunelveli District Police has issued a strong advisory to the public to remain vigilant against rising cases of online fraud.
District Superintendent of Police Shri N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., cautioned that cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting people’s growing habit of purchasing goods online, particularly during festivals like Diwali.
Despite repeated awareness campaigns, several people continue to lose money to fake online advertisements and fraudulent sellers, often lured by attractive offers. Fraudsters are now creating fake social media accounts and websites in the name of reputed cracker sellers to deceive unsuspecting buyers.
The SP urged the public to verify the authenticity of sellers and platforms before making payments online. He emphasized:
* Do not rely solely on online advertisements.
* Check seller details carefully before purchasing.
* Avoid making advance payments without proper verification.
For complaints or doubts regarding cybercrime, the public is encouraged to contact:
* Cyber Crime Toll-Free Helpline: 1930
* Official Website: [www.cybercrime.gov.in](http://www.cybercrime.gov.in)
The Tirunelveli Police reiterated that public awareness and caution are the strongest safeguards against online fraud, especially during the festive shopping season.
