Hyderabad, Telangana: In preparation for the upcoming Deepawali festival on Monday, Smt. K. Shilpavalli, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, convened a coordination meeting with all applicants and license holders of temporary firecracker shops in the zone.
During the meeting, the DCP emphasized strict adherence to the Explosives Act, 1884, and the Explosives Rules, 2008, urging traders to ensure full compliance with fire, electrical, and crowd safety protocols. She cautioned that a large public turnout is expected over the festive weekend and called upon all licensees to adopt precautionary measures to prevent mishaps.
Applications for temporary firecracker shop licenses will be accepted until October 15, 2025, at the Office of the DCP, Central Zone, along with required documents such as fire safety clearance, land permission, consent from landowners, and detailed site plans. Shops must be set up only in approved open areas, maintaining safe distances from residential and commercial zones.
DCP Shilpavalli directed that sheds be built using non-inflammable materials like asbestos or GI sheets supported by MS truss, and strictly prohibited the use of cloth, wood, or tarpaulin. Each stall must be equipped with fire extinguishers, water drums, and sand buckets, and use fixed, insulated electrical lighting.
She reiterated that only green crackers authorized by PESO and permitted under Supreme Court guidelines may be sold. The Central Zone Police, along with Fire Services, GHMC, and Revenue officials, will conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance.
Any violation of license conditions will result in cancellation and legal action under the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Appealing for public cooperation, DCP Shilpavalli said,
“Fire safety and public discipline are collective responsibilities — let us celebrate Deepawali with caution, care, and responsibility.”
