Hyderabad, Telangana, October 24, 2025: As part of community outreach and student awareness initiatives, Dr. B. Balaswamy, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Zone, interacted with first-year students of Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad, addressing key issues related to ragging, drug abuse, and online safety.

During the interactive session, DCP Dr. Balaswamy encouraged the young medical students to uphold discipline, compassion, and responsibility in their academic journey. He reminded them that “their future is in their own hands” and urged them to focus on building a career rooted in integrity and service to society.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment, he emphasized that ragging is a serious and punishable offence under the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997.

“Strict action will be taken against anyone involved in ragging. It is not just a violation of law but also a moral failure that destroys harmony and mutual respect among students,” he stated.

Dr. Balaswamy also cautioned students about the dangers of drug use and substance abuse, explaining its devastating impact on health, academics, and family life. He urged students to stay away from illegal substances and to immediately inform authorities if they come across such activities.

In addition, the DCP educated students on cyber safety and responsible online behavior, warning them against fake profiles, online scams, and exploitation through social media platforms. He advised them to maintain privacy, verify digital interactions, and report any suspicious activity to the cybercrime helpline.

The session concluded with an open interaction where students shared their concerns and received practical advice from the DCP on handling peer pressure, stress, and maintaining mental wellness.

Dr. Balaswamy reiterated that the Hyderabad City Police is always accessible to students and educational institutions, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for learning. He encouraged everyone to make use of official helplines and anti-ragging portals to seek help without hesitation.
