Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu: In a swift action against illegal smuggling, the Pudhiyampathur Police Station in Thoothukudi district arrested three persons and seized a large quantity of illegally transported beedi leaves along with the vehicles used for the offence.
Acting on a tip-off, Special Sub-Inspector Sri Mariappan and his team were conducting patrol duty near Pudhurpandiyapuram on December 29, 2025, when they noticed a cargo vehicle and a two-wheeler parked under suspicious circumstances. On questioning the individuals present, they were identified as Suresh Kumar (42) of Kurumbur, Maheswaran (30) of Kurugattur, and Vadivel Murugan (42) of Angamangalam, Kurumbur.
Further inspection revealed that the accused were illegally smuggling bundles of banned beedi leaves in the cargo vehicle. The police immediately took the three accused into custody and seized approximately two tons of beedi leaves, the cargo mini-truck, and a two-wheeler.
A case has been registered at the Pudhiyampathur Police Station, and further investigation is underway. The action highlights the Thoothukudi Police’s vigilant enforcement against illegal trade activities and their continued efforts to protect public interest and uphold the law.
