Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu: In recognition of dedicated and professional police work leading to justice in a heinous crime, South Zone Inspector General of Police Shri Vijayendra Bidari, IPS, personally commended Head Constable Selvakumar of Sengottai Police Station for his crucial role in securing the conviction of the accused in a 2020 murder case.
The case pertained to the murder of an elderly woman, Mumtaz Begum, at Viswanathapuram within the limits of Sengottai Police Station, Tenkasi district. On January 27, 2026, the Tenkasi District Principal Sessions Court sentenced five accused to life imprisonment and imposed fines, delivering justice to the victim’s family.
Head Constable Selvakumar played a key role in promptly securing the presence of witnesses before the court and extending effective assistance during the trial, which significantly contributed to the successful conviction. Appreciating his dedication and sense of duty, the IG personally summoned him and lauded his efforts.
The commendation highlights the commitment of Tenkasi District Police personnel in ensuring diligent investigation and strong follow-up during trial, reinforcing public confidence in the criminal justice system and police professionalism.
