Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: On 16.02.2026, police arrested 276 persons who were involved in a picketing protest in the Arogyanathapuram area under the limits of Perumalpuram Police Station.
The protest was reportedly led by CPI (M) District Secretary Sriram and involved residents from Arogyanathapuram village. The demonstrators staged the picketing at various locations including Palayamkottai Washermanpet, Chellapandiyan Membalam, and Keelpuram areas.
Police intervened to maintain law and order and subsequently detained 276 individuals in connection with the protest. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The police stated that necessary action was taken to ensure public order and prevent disruption to traffic and normal civic life.
