Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a strong and coordinated effort to ensure strict enforcement of election norms, the Tirunelveli Police Range, under the leadership of DIG Mr. P. Saravanan, IPS, has intensified legal action against violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
Under the supervision of Superintendents of Police Mr. R. Stalin, IPS (Kanyakumari), Dr. V. Prasanna Kumar, IPS (Tirunelveli), Mr. A. Mayilvaganan, IPS (Tenkasi), and Mr. C. Madan, IPS (Thoothukudi), police teams carried out extensive checks and enforcement drives.
On April 20, 2026, alone, cash amounting to Rs. 58.38 lakhs were seized in 31 cases where it was transported without valid documents. In addition, 167 cases were registered against illegal liquor hoarding and distribution, leading to the seizure of 1,067 liters of liquor.
Further strengthening the crackdown, over the past three days, 51 cases related to illegal cash distribution to voters were registered across the four districts, resulting in the seizure of Rs. 1.42 crores. Strict legal action has been initiated in all cases, reflecting the police department’s firm commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections.
