Udupi, Karnataka: A burglary case has been registered at Kundapur Rural Police Station following a major house theft reported in Karkunje village on May 23, 2026.
According to the complaint filed by Niranjan Bhat (46), he had locked his residence and travelled to Udupi with his family at around 11:47 am. When the family returned home at approximately 9:10 pm, they allegedly found the front door forcibly broken open.
Upon entering the house, the complainant noticed that the bedroom lock had also been broken and that the iron and wooden almirahs inside had been damaged. Gold ornaments weighing about 308 grams valued at approximately ₹18.42 lakh, around 2 kilograms of silver valued at ₹3 lakh, and cash amounting to ₹1 lakh were reportedly stolen.
Police stated that unidentified thieves are suspected to have committed the burglary by forcibly entering the house and stealing valuables collectively worth about ₹22.42 lakh.
A case has been registered under Sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305 of the BNS, and further investigation is underway.
