Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: Kalimuthu was a resident of Moolachi village near Kallidaikurichi in Tirunelveli district. On the afternoon of July 2, 2026, he was traveling on a two-wheeler with his sons, Jayaraj (5) and Chinnadurai (15). While they were traveling near Kallidaikurichi, a gang rammed a car into Kalimuthu’s vehicle. As the three fell onto the road after losing their balance, the gang attempted to hack them to death. Despite their attempts to escape, the gang relentlessly hacked Kalimuthu and his five-year-old son, Jayaraj, to death. Furthermore, they severed Kalimuthu’s head, placed it in the middle of the state highway, and fled the scene. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Kallidaikurichi police recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them to the hospital for post-mortem examinations. Kalimuthu’s eldest son, Chinnadurai, who sustained severe injuries, was admitted to a government hospital for treatment. Dr. R. Thirunavukkarasu (IPS), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Tirunelveli Range; Visvesh B. Sastry (IPS), Superintendent of Police (SP) for Tirunelveli District; and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aswath Anto Arockiaraj rushed to the scene to conduct an intensive investigation into this double murder, which occurred in broad daylight in the middle of the road. Law enforcement authorities have accelerated the investigation, exploring various angles—such as whether the murder was motivated by a prior enmity or other reasons. Additionally, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the killers, utilizing local CCTV footage as a lead.
