Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh: Under the directives of District SP Mr. K.V. Maheswara Reddy, IPS, the Srikakulam District Police are conducting extensive public awareness programmes across rural and urban areas, focusing on women and child safety, narcotics prevention, cybercrime awareness and road safety.
As part of the ‘Nari Shakti’, ‘Sankalpam’ and ‘Abhayam Helmet’ initiatives, police personnel are reaching out to students, parents, youth and the general public to create greater awareness about various social and safety concerns.
Nari Shakti – Strengthening Women and Child Safety
Through the ‘Nari Shakti’ programme, police personnel are educating women and girls about personal safety and the various avenues available to seek police assistance. Awareness is being created regarding the Shakti app and the use of 112 for emergency assistance.
The public is also being cautioned about harassment through social media, online scams involving unknown persons, and the misuse of women’s photographs and personal information. Parents and students are being sensitised about child protection, the harmful consequences of child marriage and the importance of ensuring the safety of girls.
Police are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and to immediately report incidents involving women and children so that timely assistance can be provided.
Sankalpam – Combating Drugs and Cybercrime
Under the ‘Sankalpam’ initiative, special attention is being given to preventing drug abuse among youngsters and students. Police personnel are explaining the serious health, financial, social and family-related consequences of consuming marijuana and other narcotic substances.
Youth, parents and teachers are being encouraged to remain alert to signs of drug abuse and to immediately inform the police about information relating to the sale, transportation or consumption of narcotic substances.
The programme also focuses strongly on cybercrime prevention. Public awareness is being created about online scams, fake links, OTP fraud, banking fraud and social-media-related financial scams. Citizens are being advised never to disclose confidential banking information such as OTP numbers, PINs, passwords or other financial credentials to anyone.
The police have further advised victims of cyber financial fraud to immediately contact 1930 so that timely action can be initiated.
Abhayam Helmet – Promoting Safer Roads
Through the ‘Abhayam Helmet’ initiative, the Srikakulam Police are promoting responsible road-user behaviour and emphasising the importance of wearing high-quality ISI-standard helmets.
Police personnel are explaining that helmet use is not merely a traffic-rule requirement but an important protective measure that can save lives in the event of an accident. Both two-wheeler riders and pillion riders are being urged to wear helmets.
Motorists are also being cautioned against overspeeding, drunk driving, using mobile phones while driving and other dangerous traffic violations. Citizens are being encouraged to follow traffic regulations and adopt responsible driving practices.
Through these coordinated awareness initiatives, the Srikakulam District Police are working to build a safer and more responsible community by combining public education, preventive policing and timely assistance.
The department has reiterated that citizens can contact 112 for emergencies and 1930 for cyber financial fraud, while urging everyone to actively cooperate with the police in preventing crime and protecting women, children, youth and all road users.
