<![CDATA[The Khar police arrested an actor on Sunday night for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and banging his car into an auto rickshaw thereby injuring the passengers inside it. The incident took place around 9 p.m. when Ms. Jenita Gandhi aged 21 was on her way home accompanied by her friend Mr. Gaurav Chugh aged 22. The police said the car hit their auto rickshaw from behind when it was passing by China Garden restaurant on CD Road in Khar. An officer with the Khar police said Ms. Gandhi sustained a severe jolt to her back and neck which resulted from the collision. As Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Chugh got off the auto rickshaw they saw the car trying to flee towards Santa Cruz. The car could not get far as the street was crowded due to Ganeshotsav immersion processions. Both Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Chugh approached the car and asked the driver to step out, after which they realised it was Mr. Tahil. Ms. Gandhi said in her statement that we noted down the number of the car. Meanwhile, Mr. Tahil started arguing and pushed us. Mr. Chugh called the police and a team from Khar police station reached the spot, and took all of us to the police station. The police confirmed that the driver that hit the auto rickshaw was indeed Mr. Tahil, whose full name is Dalip Tahilramani (65). The police took Ms. Gandhi, Mr. Chugh, and Mr. Tahil for a medical check-up, after which Mr. Tahil was booked for causing injury due to rash and negligent driving under the Indian Penal Code and for driving under the influence of alcohol under the Motor Vehicles Act. Mr. Sanjay More, Senior Police Inspector, Khar police station, confirmed that Mr. Tahil was arrested and later granted bail. Mr. More said that Mr. Tahil refused to let us take a blood sample so that it could be tested for alcohol traces but however he said that he was visibly drunk. ]]>
