Mumbai: Today the Mumbai police has been gifted with the Director General’s (DG) Insignia, an award given to the police personnel for their notable service in the line of duty. The nominees are over a 100 personal of the Mumbai police. The Director General of Police normally presents this award every year on Maharashtra Day to the police personnel who have been selected from across ranks based on their record of accomplishment and incidents where they displayed outstanding action. Of the 800 personnel that were honored from all over the State, 104 were from Mumbai, this year. The Insignia was awarded at a function held at the Mumbai Police Club on Wednesday morning to the deserving police personal. The DCPs who received the awards are Mr. Manjunath Singe, DCP (operations) and Mr. Vasant Jadhav, DCP (quick response team). Mr. Singe had received the prestigious award for his outstanding service in Anti-Naxal operations, when he was posted as Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli. He also serves as the city police spokesperson. Mr. Singe said that it was a moment of pride for him to be gifted with this prestigious honor. The credit goes to Mr. Singe as the SP in Gadchiroli and subsequently in Palghar, as he connects all police stations in the commissionerate through a videoconferencing facility, guiding both the police forces into the digital age. Mr. Jadhav has been awarded the Insignia for his exemplary record of accomplishment. The recipients in the Inspector category, who received the awards, are Mr. Nithin Patil and Mr. Rais Sheikh. They belonged to the Bandra traffic police division and Crime Branch Unit XI. During the period Mr. Patil was employed with the Property Cell of the Crime Branch, he was part of the investigating team that identified a number of high-profile and sensitive cases which included the 2013 Indian Premier League betting racket and the rape and murder of a 24-year-old Andhra Pradesh native in Kanjurmarg in 2014. Mr. Rais was involved in the investigation of several sensitive cases, some of which included sexual assault on minors. I have been in service for 20 years and I feel so proud on receiving this honor. On having the Insignia on the uniform it will motivate me to work even harder and with utmost dedication, said Mr. Patil. The others who got the awards includes 82 personnel of the constabulary rank posted all over the city. For consistent excellent performance, Police constable Mangesh Pawar who is currently posted with the Crime Branch Unit III, is one of those named in the list. The period of his excellence is over a service period of 12 years. Mr. Pawar said that it is rare that the topmost officer of the State takes note of your efforts and rewards you for the same.
