Vijayavada: Protesters call for ‘Chalo CMO’ call by teachers’ unions under United Teachers Forum against “Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS)”To prevent them from entering the city, Vijayawada city police deployed heavy police personnel at Kanakadurga Waradi in Guntur district, blocking Prakasam barrage and several roads.
Pandit Nehru bus station, railway station and other areas have arranged pickets and arrested several teachers who arrived in groups and the “Chalo CMO” was blocked by the police, according to media reports. Also several activists were placed under house arrest.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that the state government has set up a committee to look into the “Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) issue and discuss it with the employees’ union, with government orders appointing ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Adimulku Suresh, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and the chief secretary to the government as members of the committee. The government has asked the committee to discuss with the unions and make recommendations to the government.
In a statement, Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation President CH. Majula, Secretary K Bhanumurthy said that the YSRCP, which had promised to dissolve the CPS as soon as the government was formed, had extended the issue till today and now another committee had been set up to sideline the issue.
Teachers will wear black ribbons and protest at all taluka offices across the state on Tuesday evening, the Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation president said.
