HYDERABAD: A huge amount of cash in demonetized currency notes amounting to nearly Rs 1.25 crore were seized by Begumpet Police and a gang on Tuesday and 16 persons have been arrested by Police in Begumpet. According to Begumpet Police, the accused include a GHMC contractor S Yella Goud who was assisting his mediator friend Venkanna, advocates Shaik Shavali and Mohammed Muzammil, friends of prime accused Yadagiri, and others who were present in the house, including a woman N Satyavathi, who also acted as a mediator. The prime accused Sriram is still at large, Police said. A team of Begumpet Police station on routine patrolling at Pochamma temple found five persons gathered at a building on Monday night said B Sumathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North zone. None of them was able to answer and tried to move away from the place and ran in to house when the patrolling team questioned them. The patrol team alerted other personnel who also rushed to the spot and found that around 16 persons were present some of whom were in a hurry to disperse from the house of Anthati Yadagiri, a realtor living in Godavari Apartments in Begumpet, Police said. Yadagiri had settled deal with a businessmen from Nellore and Nizampet for exchange of demonetized currency notes with the new currency by on commission basis, Police found on enquiry. Police said, 16 persons were there in the house, including mediators, two advocates and one GHMC contractor. The DCP said, “Shaik Subhan of Nellore had brought Rs 90 lakh of old notes and and M Pavan Kumar of Nizampet had brought Rs 30 lakh of old notes for exchange. Yadagiri had told his friends and mediators to come to the house to be present during the deal”.
