Chavakkad: The woman had gone to Chavakkad town to pawn the ring she was wearing to find money to show her sick son to the hospital. During the walk, the ring slipped from his finger and fell into the dirt through the concrete slab of the sidewalk.
The panicked woman reached the Chavakkad police station and informed the police. Janamaithri senior civil police officer Ms. Soudamini, who was on live duty at the station, consoled the woman. She was asked about the details of the ring and other details.
Soon after, police officer Ms. Soudamini took the woman to the spot where the ring was missing. The young woman showed the police officer the spot where the gold ring was lost through a gap in the concrete slabs over the dirt road.
It was a dirt road going through Chavakkad city. On top of that, the concrete slabs are laid very thickly for pedestrians to go through. It is not possible to remove the slabs and pick up the lost ring. A JCB passing by caught the attention of Ms. Soudamini. She waved and asked the driver for help. He was in good spirits and agreed to raise the slab with the JCB. There was dirty water and a bad smell inside.
At first glance, the ring was nowhere to be seen. The young woman who lost the ring was totally upset.
“Let’s make way” Ms. Soudamini comforted the young woman.
She asked someone who was there for help. There was no flow in the sewer. He dug out a bucket of water and mud that had accumulated on the part where the ring had fallen and examined it carefully. The ring was found. The young woman hugged the police officer and cried as she was happy to get back the gold ring.
“Don’t worry, go away. Let the child’s illness heal quickly.” Soudamini’s words of consolation comforted the young woman.
Congratulations to Ms. Soudamini, Senior Civil Police Officer, Chavakkad Police Station, for providing the opportunity to recover the ring which was thought to have been lost by the woman through timely intervention.
