New Delhi: Arrest was made on the accused involved in cheating people after honey trapping them, the police said on Saturday. On April 20th the police said that they received a complaint from a resident residing East of Kailash stating that an unknown person stole his wallet and mobile phone and he was cheated of Rs.1,50,000/-. On conducting the investigation based on the complaint, the police, with the help of technical surveillance of the cyber cell team, led the investigation to the last beneficiary account; the police said that they identified the accused. The accused have been identified as Ashwani aged 38 from Uttar Pradesh and a resident of Uttam Nagar and his girlfriend, 41. On interrogation, the accused confessed to the police that they had come across the victim on a matrimonial website. Mr. Vijay Kumar, DC (South) said that the accused woman lured the victim after which the two started chatting. At one point, she offered that the two could meet at a hotel where she took the opportunity and got him drunk and then fled off with his wallet and phone. Later the accused transferred the money from the victim’s debit and credit card into their e-wallet account. Further, the accused changed the credentials of victim’s e-wallet through which they purchased gold in a move to divert the investigation process. They sold the gold and the money from the sale of gold was deposited into their respective bank accounts. A police officer said that the accused have cheated many more people by using the same method but the victims have not approached the police for societal reasons. ]]>
