New Delhi: An aspiring Charted Accountant aged 23 was arrested by the Cyber Crime unit of the Delhi Police for operating fake websites and misleading people by offering them free laptops and solar panels. He used the ‘Make in India campaign’ to commit the offence, the police said on Tuesday. Rohit Soni is a B.Com graduate and a resident of Churu in Rajasthan. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) Mr. Anyesh Roy said a blog was started by Rohit Soni in 2016 and it became popular. In course of time, he decided to start earning money from the blog he had started. Mr. Roy said in addition to the blog he had created he further created fake websites naming them after the schemes provided by the Modi led Government. He said the scheme provided free laptops and solar panels. He attracted the visitors to click on a link for confirming their application. Once a visitor clicks on the link it actually downloads an App called 4Fun and for every download it was charged at Rs.6/-, Mr. Roy said. When Soni came to know that, an IIT graduate was arrested in a similar cheating case he shut down his website, as he got afraid of being arrested. However, the action of his did not help him evade from the arrest by the police. Mr. Roy said when the police received a confidential piece of information that someone had created fake websites in the name of Central government’s flagship schemes, on investigation the police arrested Rohit Soni from Churu district in connection with the crime. ]]>
