<![CDATA[VIJAYAWADA: With many new education institutes coming up in the state, director general of police Nanduri Sambasiva Rao said steps must be taken to eradicate ragging in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at a press conference in the city on Friday, Rao said, "I have made an official request through the principal secretary of higher education to ensure that anti-ragging committee and anti-ragging squad are established in all higher educational institutes in AP. This is mandated by law." Stating that the police cannot alone tackle the ragging menace, the DGP said education institute heads must take responsibility and protect students. He further said number of ragging cases have seen a spurt in the last few days. "There is no ragging in western countries. We must learn this from them. I appeal all students to welcome freshers," Rao said. He further warned students of stringent punishments under UGC guidelines, which include admission cancellation and rustication.]]>
