Hyderabad City, Telangana: Meerpet Police arrested six persons for allegedly impersonating SOT officers and extorting money from a rice trader. Police seized ₹80,000 in cash, seven mobile phones, and a Volkswagen Polo car used in the offence.
The arrested accused are Sandeep Kumar, Girish, Shiva Reddy, Rakesh Singh, Sai Ram Reddy, and Pavan Sai, while another accused, Anand, is absconding. All arrested persons were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, the accused intercepted a rice-laden lorry near Patancheru ORR Exit and falsely claimed to be SOT officers. They allegedly threatened the driver and demanded money by claiming the rice load was illegal. After negotiations, the complainant transferred ₹80,000 through online payment. Later, the complainant verified that the accused were not genuine police officers and lodged a complaint.
Following investigation, police arrested the accused and recovered the cash, mobile phones, and vehicle used in the crime. Police also stated that accused Sandeep Kumar is allegedly involved in several previous cheating and Essential Commodities Act cases.
