Forest officials rescued an adult male leopard today from a 70-foot deep well in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district after lowering a cage using ropes. According to an official, the 5 -year-old leopard was part of a pair moving around possibly looking for prey in the Mandavdara area of Ahmednagar's Sangamner tehsil, about 70 kilometres. He said that the leopard had fallen into the well late last night and was spotted when the well's owner, Kundalik Dadabhau Dudhavade, came to switch on the water pump in the morning . When he informed the local Police Patil, Gorakshya Nehe, forest department personnel was called by the police. The official said that a cage was lowered into the well using ropes as part of the rescue procedure. The cage was then pulled up after the leopard entered it. He said that the leopard had been taken to the forest department's office in Sangamner and the process of releasing it after complying with laid down procedures was underway.
