A team from the Narcotics Cell, CID Unit of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, comprising SI Mohd. Rahil Islam, ASI Sanjay Yadav, PC/1173 Ratan Das, PC/2772 Nandita Mistry, PC/2871 Vishal Kumar, and PC/2836 M. Raja Rao, under the supervision of Mr. Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, Dy.SP, Narcotics, apprehended an individual named Nirmal Biswas, residing in Subash Gram, Diglipur. The arrest took place at VSI Airport near the fire pump room when Biswas arrived in Port Blair from Kolkata on 10/07/2023 via flight. The police team seized a total of 8.4 kilograms of concealed ganja from his bag and promptly arrested him, following all required procedures. The incident led to the registration of Crime No. 43/2023 dated 10/07/2023 under Section 20(b) (ii) B of the NDPS Act 1985 at PS CCS.
During the interrogation, Biswas revealed that he had purchased the contraband ganja from Kolkata with the intention of selling it in the Islands for significant profits. He further disclosed that a portion of the illicit ganja was stored in his shop located in Diglipur, which he had entrusted to his wife, Neetu Halder (39) years old, residing in Dolphin Chowk, Subashgram Bazar, for local sales. Acting on this information, a raiding team led by Inspr. Vikash Singh, SHO PS Diglipur, SI Deepti Minj, HC(IRBn)/465 Santosh Nair, PC/2565 Samaresh Mistry, PC/1670 Radhesham Howlader, PC/2116 Abubacker Siddque, and PC/904 Rubi Mondal, under the supervision of Shri Lakshay Pandey, DANIPS, ‘SDPO(Diglipur),’ conducted a raid at Nirmal Biswas’ shop in Diglipur. During the operation, they recovered 964 grams of illicit ganja and promptly arrested his wife, following all required procedures. The incident led to the registration of Crime No. 63/2023 dated 10/07/2023 under Section 20(b) (ii) A of the NDPS Act 1985 at Diglipur Police Station. Investigations are currently ongoing for both cases.
