Kozhikode: In a significant operation at Kozhikode International Airport, Kerala, the Karipur police conducted a meticulous inspection following a credible tip-off regarding a potential gold smuggling operation. During this operation, a staggering 503 grams of gold, cunningly mixed with illicitly imported gold, was apprehended from the possession of four individuals who were found in a vehicle conspicuously lacking a license plate. Noteworthy is the fact that two of these individuals were identified as passengers who had recently arrived from Jeddah.
What further piqued the interest of the authorities was the revelation that two additional individuals in the same vehicle had apparently convened with the intention of collecting the smuggled gold. In an astute move, the mobile phones of these individuals were subjected to scrutiny, leading to the discovery of a trove of compelling evidence linked to the illicit gold trade.
Subsequently, a thorough search was conducted on an airport employee who emerged as a person of interest in this burgeoning investigation. This scrutiny bore fruit as two mobile phones and a substantial sum of one lakh rupees were discovered in his possession. Among the contents of his mobile phones, investigators stumbled upon a duty roster for the customs officer covering the entire month, as well as a revealing WhatsApp exchange with an Assistant Commandant of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Additionally, meticulous records of money transfers were meticulously documented.
In light of these discoveries, a formal case has been registered against the Assistant Commandant, marking a significant development in this unfolding investigation. The authorities remain resolute in their efforts to untangle the intricacies of this illicit operation, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for justice and the dismantling of this nefarious network.
