Rajkot: The Rajkot Police said on Saturday that a man was arrested from Chotila in Gujarat’s Surendra Nagar district for raping a woman on the pretext of offering her a job after assuming a fake identity online and blackmailing her.
A Rajkot police official said that the accused, Aijaz Gadhwala pretending to be as Ravirajsinh on online classifieds platform OLX, called the victim to a hotel room in Chotila where he raped her.
The Gandhigram police station official said that the accused had placed an advertisement online about a flat for rent. When the victim saw the advertisement and called for details of this flat, the developed a friendship with the woman by claiming he was the son of a policeman. During the conversation, the accused promised to get her a job in the police department using his father’s contact.
The police official said that the accused called the victim to a hotel room in Chotila, raped her and recorded the act to blackmail her. He also took Rs. 2 lakh from the victim. The police officer added saying that the accused, Gadhwala has been arrested.
