Ahmedabad: The President’s colours and standard or Nishan is a symbol of excellence and Pride for the Police force. It is a testament to the gallant service rendered by a force to the nation. A committee of the ministry of home affairs, comprising the heads of the CRPF, BSF, CBI, R&AW Odisha Police and Himachal Pradesh Police, evaluated the proposal and forwarded it to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval. After getting the approval and the date confirmed for the Vice President to honour the Gujarat Police the necessary arrangements were taken to conduct the ceremony.
On December 15 a ceremonial parade was held at the Gujarat Police Academy and Vice President of India Mr. Venkaiah Naidu gave the President’s colours and standard which included a special flag and emblem to the Gujarat Police.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Vijay Rupani, The Home Minister of Gujarat and the state Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Shivanand Jha, IPS were present at the ceremony which took place at the Karai Police Academy. By receiving this award Gujarat became the 7th state to receive this award and logo.
The states that were bestowed with the President’s colours before Gujarat were Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Assam.
Mr.Jha said after it is unveiled, the flag will become the symbol of all the units of Gujarat Police and the emblem will be worn on the left sleeve of the uniform of all ranks of Gujarat Police, to signify unity, a spirit of the Police and pride.
This award was given by the Vice President of India to the Gujarat Police for its various services in the state including the Indo-Pakistan border in Gujarat. Mr. Jha said Gujarat Police has faced several challenges successfully including organized crime, major agitations and terrorism in the period of 59 years. It has acquired modern weaponry, a fleet including special purpose vehicles, communication systems, security equipment, investigation tools, riot control and public order tools and other systems required for law enforcement work.
