Hyderabad City, Telangana: On the basis of credible information, the Special Crime Team of the Central Crime Station (CCS), Hyderabad City, in coordination with Habeeb Nagar Police, conducted an operation on 17.07.2026 and apprehended two persons for illegally possessing and selling large quantities of prescription sedative tablets and cough syrups. During the operation, police seized 77,700 tablets (NitraZohm-10, Nitcor-10 and Nitravet-10) and 170 bottles of Choco+ Cough Syrup, collectively valued at approximately ₹10 lakh. Six other accused involved in the illegal network are absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Investigation revealed that the accused were procuring the medicines from sources in Bidar without lawful authorization and transporting them to Hyderabad for illegal sale at inflated prices. These prescription medicines were allegedly supplied to habitual offenders, suspects, and members of the public, particularly youth, for misuse as intoxicants. Abuse of such sedative tablets and cough syrups can cause intoxication, dizziness, drowsiness, impaired coordination, confusion and other serious health risks, while also facilitating the commission of property and bodily offences.
Hyderabad City Police advise the public to purchase and consume medicines only under the prescription and supervision of a registered medical practitioner and not from unauthorized persons or illegal sources. Citizens are requested to immediately report any illegal sale, storage, transportation or distribution of medicines and cough syrups to the nearest police station or the concerned authorities. Hyderabad City Police remain committed to taking stringent legal action against persons involved in the illegal sale and distribution of medicines and other contraband.
