In a disturbing incident that took place on May 8, 2022, Gopi Krishna, also known as Gopi, residing in close proximity to a 7-year-old girl’s house in Bennavaram(V), Chodavaram(M), committed an atrocious act of rape. The gravity of this heinous crime sparked outrage and prompted a swift response from the authorities.
The Vizianagaram SC&ST Cell-1, known for their dedication to justice, took charge of the investigation. Their meticulous efforts and unwavering commitment to the case culminated in the arrest of the accused and the subsequent filing of a comprehensive charge sheet.
The case was then presented before the Special Judge for SC, ST Cell, and the POCSO Court, who presided over the proceedings. Recognizing the severity of the crime and the need for stringent punishment, the IVth Additional District Judge delivered a verdict that will serve as a deterrent to potential offenders. The accused, Gopi Krishna, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, signifying the gravity of his actions. Additionally, a fine of Rs.2000/- was imposed on him.
