An intruder was shot dead by security personnel when he tried forcibly enter the house of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in a car at Bhatindi on the outskirts of Jammu city on Saturday. Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the man from Mendar rammed his car into the front gate and entered the lobby of Abdullah's residence before being shot dead. According to witnesses, he continued to drive recklessly and reached the inner garden. SSP, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Vivek Gupta, said that that the intruder broke through the main gate and went inside and had a fight with the duty officer there, who was injured. He was shot dead after that he entered the residence and damaged some sort of articles there. Director General of Police SP Vaid said that an enquiry is being conducted for the violation of security and a case has been registered. When the security breach was reported, Abdullah was on his way to Srinagar from the national capital, attending the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. He reacted saying that it was very unfortunate that such an incident happened and speaks volumes about the security situation in the state. He asked the Police to investigate the motive of the youth.
