Chennai: The R.K. Nagar police personal took two persons into custody who ventured to enter a house in which two women were alone. The police received the information following an alert from a woman resident through the Kavalan SOS app.
Police Commissioner Mr. A.K. Viswanathan while attending a college function on Friday had made an appeal to women and senior citizens in distress to make use of the Kavalan SOS app. The app is beneficial and handy and could be aptly used during the times of distress and emergency.
The police said, while the two women, Preethi, and her mother-in-law were alone in their house on Sibi Road, R.K. Nagar, two unidentified persons entered their house and claimed that they were from a courier firm. Preethi’s mother-in-law, who had downloaded the app, pressed the alert button.
The moment the alarm button was pressed by the mother-in-law the information reached the R.K. Nagar police station and the officers rushed to the spot within a period of six minutes and nabbed the strangers. After interrogating the persons the police found out that the duo identified as Saleem aged 41 and Dawood aged 38 were not from a courier firm as they claimed. The police are conducting further investigation to collect more details.
