Telangana, Hyderabad: On November 4, 2024, at 22:00 hours, Smt. Rubeena Begum, wife of Mohd Saddam, aged 28 years and residing in Afzalsagar, Mangar Basti, Mallepally, Nampally, Hyderabad, filed a complaint. She reported that she has one daughter and two sons and resides with her family. Rubeena shared that her husband struggles with alcohol addiction and, three months ago, consumed acid due to family issues.
On November 4, 2024, at 11:00 hours, her husband left their home with their youngest son, Mohd Shoheb, aged 4, to visit Osmania General Hospital for treatment. By 18:00 hours, they had not returned, prompting her to visit the hospital to search for them. She found her husband asleep in the hospital’s waiting area in an intoxicated state, but her son, Mohd Shoheb, was missing. She searched throughout the hospital and surrounding areas but could not locate him. Rubeena requested the police to take action to locate her son.
A team from Afzalgunj Police Station, led by SHO Sri G Lingeshwar Rao and including DSI P Ram Kishan, Crime staff HC B Srikanth, and PCs Md Suleman, G Srikanth, K Vishal Kumar, Md Adil Ahmed, D. Chandra Shekhar, Uday Kumar, and Md Asad Quadri, reviewed CCTV footage from various locations, including Public Garden, Nampally and Secunderabad Railway Stations, Indira Park, Tank Bund, L&T Metro Stations, and other isolated areas. They displayed the missing boy’s photo at bus stands and railway stations. During the review, the suspect was seen with the child at Dabeerpura Flyover Bridge. The team promptly reached the location, apprehended the suspect at Dabeerpura Railway Station as he was attempting to board a train, and safely rescued the child within 12 hours of the reported incident.
The suspect, identified as Shaik Rafeeq alias Rafi, son of the late Shaik Jaweed, aged 35, from Warangal District, was taken into custody.
The efforts of the Afzalgunj Police team in swiftly resolving the case and rescuing the child were commended by senior officers, and the team will be suitably rewarded. The arrest and rescue were carried out under the supervision of Sri B. Balaswamy, IPS, DCP East Zone; J. Narsaiah, Additional DCP East Zone; and Sri K. Shankaraiah, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sultan Bazaar Division.
