Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In Vaduvoorpatti village, located within the jurisdiction of the Kalakkad Police Station in Tirunelveli district, police took action after receiving information that a man named Sivanpandi (45) was illegally selling liquor on the black market. Consequently, Sivanpandi (45) and his son, Charles Naveen (21), were arrested; a criminal case was registered against them at the Kalakkad Police Station, and an investigation was initiated. Taking into consideration the physical condition of Sivanpandi—who is a person with disabilities—he was granted station bail in accordance with the law and released into the custody of his relatives. Subsequently, in the afternoon, Sivanpandi returned to the Kalakkad Police Station, where he engaged in an altercation with the officials and consumed pesticide. The relatives who had accompanied him immediately rushed him to the government hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment as an inpatient at the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable. It appears that Sivanpandi returned to the police station and created a disturbance with the specific intent of diverting the legal proceedings initiated by the police regarding his crime of illegally selling liquor; furthermore, he verbally abused the government officials on duty using derogatory language. The District Police Department has issued a statement warning that legal action will be taken against any individuals who obstruct police duties or cause nuisance to the general public in this manner.
