Mumbai: Through the recovery of a duffel bag in which the lower body parts of the woman were kept, the Thane PoliceCrime Branch on Monday arrested the father of the 22-year-old woman.
The Crime Branch officials said that the matter came to the notice of the police when an auto-rickshaw driver, who picked up a passenger from outside Kalyan railway station at 5.25 a.m. on Sunday sensed a foul smell coming from the rear seat. When he asked the passenger about it, the man left the vehicle and fled. The driver then opened the bag and found the lower part of a body from the waist down. He immediately reported the incident to the police.
On taking the duffel bag into custody the Mahatma Phule Chowk police registered a case of murder against unknown persons and initiated an investigation. During the investigation process, the police personnel examined the CCTV footage at Kalyan station. The Crime Branch, which was simultaneously investigating the case, scanned the CCTV footage and spotted two men carrying the duffel bag out of a local train.
