Fine drivers only during nakabandi: New traffic order Traffic cops will penalise offenders only in the presence of the city police and avoid taking action on their own, joint police commissioner (traffic) Milind Bharambe has said in a new circular to his department. The circular further states that traffic cops can ticket errant motorists and bikers only during nakabandis after calling personnel from the nearest police station to the spot. Also, there will be no nakabandis during peak hours. Traffic constables Mirror spoke to criticised the directive, saying it had demoralised the department, still reeling from the death of head constable Vilas Shinde, who was assaulted by two helmetless bikers. “The circular says we can penalise offenders only during nakabandis. So if motorists violate rules during other times, should we just ignore them?” a constable said.]]>
