Chennai/Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu: In a major crackdown, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zonal Unit, dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking network and seized 717 kg of ganja valued at approximately ₹3.58 crore.
The contraband was cleverly concealed in a false ceiling and hidden cavities of a Bharat Benz container truck intercepted on the Madurai–Thoothukudi National Highway near Meelavittam. Four accused persons have been arrested so far.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs were transported from Paderu in Visakhapatnam district and intended for distribution in Tuticorin. The operation disrupted a major supply chain, and efforts are ongoing to trace the mastermind and other associates.
The NCB continues its intensified efforts under the vision of a drug-free India, urging citizens to report drug-related activities through the MANAS helpline (1933).
