Medchal–Malkajgiri, Telangana: The National Commission for Women (NCW) organized a Mahila Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Medchal-Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate on March 12, 2026, to address grievances related to crimes against women and strengthen institutional response mechanisms.
The programme was chaired by Vijaya Rahatkar, Hon’ble Chairperson of NCW, in the presence of senior officials including Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, Director General of Police of Telangana; Charu Sinha, IPS, Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau Telangana; K. Avinash Mohanty, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri; Manu Choudari, IAS, District Collector of Medchal-Malkajgiri; M. Srinivas, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes), Hyderabad City Police; and Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Future City, along with other senior officers.
During the hearing, 30 complaints from Medchal-Malkajgiri district and five walk-in complaints were taken up. The grievances were mainly related to domestic violence, harassment, abandonment, and cybercrime. The Chairperson reviewed the cases and directed the concerned authorities to take prompt action and ensure timely redressal.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai initiative is being conducted across the country by the National Commission for Women from March 8 to March 13 as part of the observance of International Women’s Day, providing a direct platform for women to present their grievances and seek institutional support.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on the rising trend of crimes against women as highlighted in the National Crime Records Bureau 2023 data. Emphasis was placed on timely investigations, stronger coordination among agencies, and effective enforcement of laws such as the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, along with measures to tackle cybercrimes targeting women. The NCW Chairperson appreciated the efforts of the Medchal-Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate and the district administration in addressing women’s grievances and reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring women’s safety, dignity, and access to justice.
