CHENNAI: The Marina which is under prohibition under section 144 clamped by the Chennai City Police a few days ago following violence at the Marina as a result of Jallikattu protests last has agreed to allow political parties to pay their respects at the memorial of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on the occasion of his death anniversary on Friday. A senior Police officer said, “The provisions of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code provide for exemptions for the conduct of annual events such as peaceful processions, laying of wreaths or paying tributes. Since the parties requested us we went through the request and granted permission to conduct annual peaceful processions and pay their tributes but, the provisions of the prohibitory order will be in full force”, according to the senior Police officer. Police personnel from Armed Police and Swift Action Force were deployed along Kamarajar Road as a precautionary measure. Vendors who had put up shops on the sands of the Marina were not allowed to open their outlets. Only by February 12 we will know if the whether the prohibitory order will be withdrawn or not depending upon the situation, a senior Police officer said.  ]]>
