JAGATSINGHPUR: Tirtol Police in Orissa arrested three Biju Janata Dal workers on Friday after they allegedly involved in pre-poll violence last week. Police identified them as Sk Habibullah, Sk Ayub Ali and Sk Tayub Ali. All the three were handed over to the court. Seven BJD workers on Saturday were injured and admitted to SCB Medical in Cuttack after clashed broke out between two groups of party workers after the Panchayat Samiti election at Krishanandapur panchayat under Tirtol Police limits. There was dispute between the two groups of BJD workers over election for the post of chairman of Tirtol Panchayat Samiti, sources said. Sujata Mohanty BJD Panchayat Samiti member of Tirtol a supporter of local MLA Rajashree Mallick, was elected as chairperson. This angered rivals of Mallick. When supporters of Mohanty and Mallick went on procession after the election in Krishanandapur panchayat, their rivals within the party staged a demonstration leading to clashes, Tirtol Police said. More people will be arrested in the case once the injured BJD workers are discharged from the hospital, Police said. ]]>
