Hyderabad, Telangana: In a significant operation to safeguard public health, the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, Khairtabad Zone Team, cracked down on the illegal sale of expired medicines and arrested two individuals involved in the racket.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Task Force conducted surprise inspections at AL Zamzam Chemist & Druggist and AL Shifa Medical & General Store in MS Maqtha, Khairtabad. During the operation, officers seized 3,187 expired medicines and healthcare products worth ₹88,277, along with a Motorola mobile phone valued at ₹10,000, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹98,277.
Investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly removed or cut off the manufacturing and expiry details from medicine strips before selling the expired products to unsuspecting customers for illegal financial gain, posing a serious risk to public health.
The arrested accused were identified as the owner of the two medical stores and one employee. Both were handed over to the Drug Inspector, Khairtabad Zone, along with the seized property for further legal action.
The successful operation highlights Hyderabad Police’s commitment to protecting public health by preventing the circulation of unsafe medicines and taking strict action against those endangering the lives of citizens. The police have also urged the public to always check the manufacturing and expiry dates before purchasing medicines and to promptly report any suspicious sale of expired drugs.
