IMPHAL: Alert Manipur Police today recovered a hand grenade and a bomb in capital Imphal’s West district even as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit to address an election rally tomorrow. The recovery comes in backdrop of an apex body of six rebel groups in Manipur giving a call for a “complete shutdown” in the state tomorrow to protest against Modi’s visit. PM Modi is scheduled to address a rally at Langjing Achouba ground in Imphal West district in support of BJP candidates as the Assembly polls are approaching. Police found a Chinese-made hand grenade near the gate of BJP candidate Soibam Subhachandra’s residence at Ningombam Leikai, 9 km away from the Achouba ground, even as another bomb was found in front of another BJP worker O Sunil’s residence in Thoubal district, 40 km away from the rally venue. Police have begun frisking people all over to make sure there is no loophole in the security arrangements. DSP Mr. Thankhochon and Mr. OC Thaingampou led State Police commandos under the supervision of Additional SP S Ibomcha are carrying search operations and house-to-house verification at Taobungkhok Awang Leikai, Police say. Elections will be held in two phases on March 4 and March 8 in the 60-seat Manipur Assembly. ]]>
