Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM) and the West Bengal police resulting in death of a sub inspector. Mr. Amitabh Mullick (Sub Inspector) died allegedly of bullet injuries in an early morning operation at a hide out of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM) president Bimal Gurung. According to the police, a team of police officers came under fire at Nimboo basti and adjoining forest areas. The encounter continued for a while and several weapons including automatic rifles have been seized from the spot. Police personnel and GJM supporters have also sustained injuries in the incident. This is the first major incident of violence after the 100 day long strike was lifted in Darjeeling. Earlier a home guard had died of injuries sustained in a low intensity blast near Kalimpong police station. While the bandh has been lifted on September 27 the situation in Darjeeling hills remains tense with the police making attempts to arrest the GJM president Bimal Gurung against whom several charges of inciting violence has been pressed.]]>
