South Andaman, Andaman and Nicobar: In a commendable initiative to promote sports, youth development, and stronger community ties, the Andaman & Nicobar Police, in association with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA), successfully organized the 2nd DGP Cup A&N State Open Chess Tournament–2026 at Sri Vijaya Puram.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 228 players representing various parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, including police personnel, their family members, and chess enthusiasts. Conducted under the FIDE Rapid Chess Regulations using the Swiss System, the event provided a fair and competitive platform for participants to showcase their strategic skills and sporting excellence.
The closing ceremony was graced by Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, who presented trophies, prizes, and certificates to the winners. Addressing the gathering, he encouraged children and youth to actively participate in sports, emphasizing that games such as chess help develop discipline, strategic thinking, confidence, resilience, and healthy lifestyles while steering young people away from drug abuse and other anti-social activities.
Beyond the competition, the tournament served as a platform to foster sportsmanship, encourage positive youth engagement, and strengthen the bond between the police and the community. The successful conduct of the event reflects the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s commitment to promoting holistic development, nurturing young talent, and building a safer and healthier society through the spirit of sports.
