Udupi, Karnataka: In a prompt and professional response to a serious domestic violence incident, Karkala Rural Police acted swiftly to arrest the accused and ensure legal action. The incident occurred on January 27, 2026, at around 9:50 am in Gummethu, Nooral Bettu village of Karkala taluk, following a domestic dispute between Mrs. Geetha and her husband Sunil Kumar.
During the altercation, the accused allegedly assaulted Mrs. Geetha with a weapon, causing severe bleeding injuries to her forehead and chin. The victim was immediately shifted to KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Based on the complaint, Karkala Rural Police registered Crime No. 10/2026 under relevant sections of the law and promptly took the accused Sunil Kumar (44) into custody. He was produced before the Hon’ble Court and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Mrs. Geetha, who had suffered serious internal injuries and fractures to her chest bones, unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on February 2, 2026, at 5:46 am. Following her death, the police immediately altered the case from attempt to murder to murder under the appropriate provisions of law and intensified the investigation.
The swift registration of the case, immediate arrest of the accused, and timely alteration of charges reflect the commitment of Karkala Rural Police to ensure justice for victims of violent crimes. The police are continuing the investigation in a thorough and sensitive manner to bring the offender to justice.
