CHENNAI: Police have been acting very tough against those trying to create law and order issue near Koovathur including supporters of V K Sasikala where several MLA’s representing All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party had been camping for more than a week now. A huge posse of Police personnel took over the Koovathur village from Tuesday situated near Chennai. Police had picked up more than 200 people, allegedly supporters of the AIADMK general secretary, from her hometown Mannargudi on Monday night itself. Intelligence suggested violence may break out in the event of the Supreme Court convicting Sasikala and her stayover at the Golden Beach Resort was also considered as an attempt to resist any attempt to take her into custody, Police sources say. Mr. V Vardharaju, IG (Inspector General), Central Zone and also Mr. Senthamarai Kannan, IG (Inspector General), North Zone were summoned by the DGP to lead the operations at Koovathur. The Chennai City Additional Commissioner of Police, (ADCP), Intelligence, Mr. Thamaraikannan was also sent to Koovathur to assist the other officers. Police source informed Policenewsplus that inspection was held inside the rooms of the MLAs and those accompanying them had been evacuated from the resort. Vehicular movement on ECR was also being restricted to prevent gathering of Sasikala supporters at the resort venue. All sensitive places including the residence of caretaker Chief Minister Mr. O. Panneerselvam, Poes Garden are under heavy Police security. When AIADMK leaders loyal to Mr O Paneerselvam wanted to meet the MLAs at Koovathur the Police sensed this might lead to law and order issues. School Education Minister Mr. M Pandiarajan was also stopped at Kovalam for this reason, Police say. Mr Pandiarajan was sent as it could have triggered tension at the resort. Prohibitory orders were also issued by Police at Koovathur. A few MLAs also objected to the visit of Mr. Panneerselvam coming to the resort without their permission.
