Puducherry: The Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Rahul Alwal, IPS, Law and Order and Traffic has released the traffic diversion details in view of the New Year Eve celebration. In the release it is mentioned that on the eve of New Year celebrations, the general public and tourists are expected to throng the Beach Road on the night of 31/12/2019 and in order to facilitate the celebrations, vehicles will not be permitted in the White Town area that is the eastern side of Gingee Salai from 02.00 PM on 31/12/2019 to 09.00 AM on 01/01/2020.
Moreover, all the roads towards the Eastern direction from Ambour Salai will be closed temporarily. The vehicles with patients, meant for emergency treatment at Govt. General Hospital, Puducherry will be permitted via Saint Ange Street and Gingee Salai, Surcouf Street and Gingee Salai. The residents of Beach Road will be issued with Vehicle Pass and they shall use the following roads to park their vehicles. Junction of S.V. Patel Salai & Francois Martin Street, Junction of Dupuy Street & Gingee Salai, Junction of J.N. Street & Gingee Salai, Junction of Bussy Street & Gingee Salai, Junction of Suffren Street & Subbaiah Salai.
All the four-wheelers used for conveyance by the public for the New Year celebrations to Beach Road should be parked in the Parking Lots, provided in the New Port and Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. Also, free “park & ride shuttle bus” facilities have also been provided from New Port and Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. The free “park & ride shuttle bus” will start from New Port, reach Sonampalayam Junction, turn right, proceed straight (eastern side), reach Park Guest House via Subbaiah Salai, then turn left, proceed on Dumas Street, turn left, reach Bharathi Park via Mahe De Labourdonnais Street. Then turn left towards Suffren Street, turn right via SubbaiahSalai proceed towards Sonampalayam Junction, turn left and reach the Parking Lot in New Port via Ambedkar Salai.
Another free park & ride shuttle bus will start from S.V.Patel Salai & Gingee Salai Junction, reach Gingee Salai Sonampalayam Junction, turn left, proceed straight towards the eastern side, reach Park Guest House via Subbaiah Salai, then turn left, proceed onDumas Street, turn left, reach Bharathi Park via Mahe De Labourdonnais Street. Then turn left towards Suffren Street, turn right via Subbaiah Salai proceed towards Sonampalayam Junction, turn right in the direction of Ambour Salai and will reach S.V. Patel & Gingee Salai Junction via Ambour Salai. Another Parking Lot is provided in Petit Seminaire Primary School to park only two-wheelers. Likewise, vehicles shall also be parked on the northern side of stretches, which intermingles between Mission Street & Ambour Salai. The general public is requested to use the free park & ride shuttle buses, after parking the vehicles on these roads.
The devotees, who visit the Churches within the white town area, will be provided with Vehicle Pass. The vehicles having such Passes shall proceed on Gingee Salai & Surcouf Street Junction, turn right towards Victor Simonel Street and Eveche Street junction and park the same in the earmarked Parking Lot.
Plying and Parking of all types of Heavy Vehicles are prohibited within the boulevard area from 02.00 PM on 31/12/2019 to 09.00 AM on 01/01/2020. Buses proceeding towards ECR Road from Puducherry Bus-Stand shall ply via Nellithope, Indira Gandhi Square & Rajiv Gandhi Square. Likewise, all the buses from ECR Road shall pass through Shivaji Square, Rajiv Gandhi, and Indira Gandhi Square to reach Puducherry Bus-Stand. The local buses from Muthialpet side towards Bus-Stand will be diverted via Ajantha junction, Anna Salai, 45 feet road, Thiruvalluvar Salai, Nellithope& M.M. Adigal Salai. Similarly, the vehicular movement from Venkata Subba Reddiyar Statue Junction towards the eastern side stretches leading to Ambour Salai, will be prohibited in order to avoid traffic chaos at the intersections of Gingee Salai & Ambur Salai. These arrangements will be implemented from 09.00 PM on 31.12.19.
The Stretch of Caserine Street which leads to General Hospital will be kept Vehicle and Pedestrian Free to meet out the Emergency situations. To prevent rash and drunken-driving, the intensive drive will be conducted in several places in Puducherry. CCTV cameras have also been installed at important junctions to analyze the traffic violations, committed by the road-commuters.
The May I Help You Centres will be erected at the following places. The First Aid Centres will also be made functional with First Aid Kits and Para-medical Staff in May I Help You Centres near Hotel Ajantha, Beach Road, near IGP Office, near Gandhi Statue and near Chief Secretariat.
Apart from the above help centers, 21 booths of May I Help You will be erected covering important stretches throughout Puducherry. These booths will facilitate traffic regulation and law & order. To facilitate tracing out of missing children, special arrangements have been made at the Access Control to issue Labels / Stickers to those parents who accompany minor children requesting them to fill the necessary details and place it in the kids’ pocket.
The Public is requested to co-operate with the police by avoiding triple riding, dangerous or rash driving and over speed driving to avoid any untoward incident. Ambulances will be stationed near the Police Headquarters, Old Distillery, and Hotel Seagulls. Sufficient Mobile Toilet and drinking water facilities have been made available by the Puducherry Municipality in and around the White Town area. The public is requested to co-operate with the Traffic Police to enforce the temporary Traffic arrangements in order to ensure a hassle-free New Year celebrations and also requested to keep the city clean. The Puducherry Police Department also wishes the public to celebrate a safe and Prosperous New Year with full delights but without accidents.
