Mayiladuthurai: Following the directives of Mrs. K. Meena, Superintendent of Police, Mayiladuthurai District, to curb prohibition crimes, the Prohibition Division and inspectors from all police stations are to take serious action. Acting on these instructions, on the night of June 9, 2024, based on confidential information, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Lamake, Inspector of the Prohibition Division Mrs. Jaya, Special Assistant Inspector Manikanda Ganesh, and officers from the Tiruvenkadu police department conducted a vehicle search near the Alangudi Vedattu bridge. They stopped a speeding car on suspicion and seized 394 liters of brandy, amounting to 2,190 bottles. The driver, Ramesh (42), and passenger Dilip Kumar (25) were arrested and taken to the Sirkazhi Liquor Prohibition Unit. A case was registered, and after the investigation, they were placed in judicial custody.
