Ernakulam Rural: The Puthankurish Police Station emerged as the champions of the DIG Cup, a cricket tournament organized by the Rural District Police as a key part of their anti-drug campaign. The final match saw a thrilling contest between Kunnath and Nadu, with Kunnath clinching the victory by a narrow margin of eight runs.
Vishnu from the Varappuzha station team was honored with the prestigious Man of the Series award for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Individual accolades were also awarded to Abbas from Kunnathunad, who was named the Best Bowler, and Ambadi from Puthankurish, who secured the title of Best Batsman. Anoop from Puthankurish was recognized as the Best Player of the Final for his exceptional contributions to his team’s success.
The entire tournament, including the final match, took place at the scenic Aluva Thurut Goat Turf. The culmination of the event was marked by a grand awards ceremony, where trophies and accolades were distributed by the esteemed Kochi City Police Commissioner, Hon. S. Shyam Sundar. The event was presided over by the Rural District Police Chief, Vaibhav Saxena IPS, who commended the participants and organizers for their dedication and efforts.
The ceremony was graced by several notable dignitaries who delivered inspiring speeches. These included Additional SP Jilsan Mathew, Perumbavoor ASP Mohit Rawat, Narcotics Cell DySP V. Anil, Special Branch DYSP V.S. Nawaz, Aluva DYSP A. Prasad, Muvattupuzha DYSP A.J. Thomas, M.V. Sanil, and T.T. Jayakumar, among others. Each speaker highlighted the significance of such events in fostering community spirit and combating drug addiction.
This year’s tournament saw the enthusiastic participation of 47 teams from across the district, all rallying together in the collective fight against drug abuse. The success of the DIG Cup not only showcased the sporting talents within the police force but also underscored the importance of unity and proactive efforts in addressing social issues.
