Chennai: The Madhavaram police arrested a 25-year-old woman and her male friend for extorting money from a businessman by threatening to make public videos of him in a compromising position with the woman. The accused, Suganya, 25, was working in the shop of Vijayaraj, 45, a tyre dealer on Manali High Road. She was allegedly in a relationship with him and with the help of her friend, Praveen Kumar, 26, captured their intimate moments on a mobile phone. They then threatened to leak the videos and demanded ₹50 lakh from him. Vijayaraj paid ₹50 lakh in cash and also handed over to them some land documents a few months ago. Five days ago, the duo again threatened Vijayaraj and demanded more money, prompting him to lodge a complaint with the Madhavaram police. Inspector (Crime) Suresh Kumar, after an investigation, arrested Suganya and Praveen Kumar. The police booked a case against them for offences including criminal intimidation and extortion. They were remanded to judicial custody, and the police recovered four high-end cars and 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery from them.
