ERODE: Many lovers thronged the All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Erode on 17 August even as the month of Avani started which is considered to be auspicious for weddings. According to, “Many cannot solemnise weddings in the month of Aadi, but Avani has many auspicious days.” Police said, “Today, five lover couples came to the station and got married at nearby temples. The police station saw huge crowds of parents opposing such unions”. Station inspector Nirmala says, “Though Aadi was believed to be inauspicious, last month too the station got lover couples who did not bother about tradition. We check only if the boy and the girl have crossed 21 and 18 respectively. We support the marriage if they bring valid age proof. Nowadays, the lovers come after marrying but there is no proof of such marriage. The registrar’s office insists on parents registering the marriage,” she said. ]]>
