<![CDATA[Even violence broke out on Marina beach due to jallikattu protests turning violent on Monday, more than 90 Police personnel on duty who were keeping law and came under attack from protestors and suffered injuries in Chennai. The authorities activated cellphone jammers on Beach Road and blocked the arterial roads to prevent more protesters from reaching Marina. Police were attacked by mobs from nearby slums who had pelted stones. Jallikattu supporters across Tamil Nadu were fighting with the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police S Lakshmi was injured in stone pelting at Gandhipuram bus stand. Police moved in early in morning on Monday and started evicting protesters from Marina beach around 6.15am. Protesters ran towards the shoreline, but were removed in batches. Protesters came out of the beach and pelted stones at policemen on the road after which Police resorted to lathicharge. Even as mobs from slums along the elevated MRTS track near Marina, comprising mostly teenagers and youngsters, tried to move to the beach the Police stopped them at Nedukuppam, Bharathi Salai and Parthasarathy temple arch. The teenagers and youngsters who were hiding inside tenements threw burning tyres at Police. A mob threw petrol bombs at Policemen at Bharathi Salai, Parthasarathy temple arch and Nedukuppam in Chennai. ]]>
