MADURAI: Mr. Velmurugan a Police constable posted in Kuchanur in Theni district in Tamil Nadu and who is attached to Odaipatti Police is a sincere follower of Jayalalithaa. Following the sentence against Ms.Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets (DA) scam in 2014 Velmurugan tonsured his head in Police uniform and prayed for her release. After Jayalalithaa’s death on December 5 Velmurugan informed senior Police officials that he was resigning from Police service and start social service in the name of Jayalalithaa. Meantime when the Supreme Court sentenced AIADMK General Secretary, V K Sasikala, and two others, he spoke against her. Velmurugan is said to have openly stated that if someone from Sasikala’s team contests in R K Nagar constituency he would oppose them. On Tuesday Velmurugan was issued suspension order for speaking against Sasikala. On Wednesday Mr. Velmurugan staged protest, in uniform, in front of the statue of Pennycuick with the sole demand of setting up a judicial inquiry to probe into the death of Jayalalithaa.
