Perambalur: In Thathalal village, on 27th May 2023, a comprehensive awareness campaign was organized by a dedicated team comprising Mrs. S. Shyamladevi, the Superintendent of Police for Perambalur District, Mr. Maruthamuthu, the Special Assistant Inspector responsible for Crimes Against Women and Children, Mrs. Megala, a committed member of the One Step Center, Mrs. Sumathi, the village leader, and Vice President Mrs. Menaka. Their collective efforts were aimed at educating the general public about the alarming issue of crimes against women and children.

During the campaign, they extensively emphasized the importance of utilizing various helpline numbers that have been set up for immediate assistance and support. These helpline numbers included 181 for the Women Help Desk, 112 for emergency services related to women’s safety, 1098 for reporting allegations against children, 14417 for the protection of school children, 14567 for the Elderly Helpline, 1930 for addressing cybercrime issues, and several others. They ensured that the villagers were aware of these vital resources and understood how to utilize them effectively.

Additionally, the team focused on raising awareness about the severe consequences of drug addiction, particularly highlighting the harmful effects of substances that have been banned by the government. They provided detailed information regarding the dangers associated with drug abuse and emphasized the need for the community to stay away from such substances for the sake of their own well-being and the welfare of their families.

Another significant aspect addressed during the campaign was the potential risks of standing under trees during thunderstorms. The team emphasized the importance of being cautious and avoiding standing under trees due to the unpredictable weather changes that can occur during thunderstorms. They provided guidance on seeking safe shelter and taking necessary precautions to protect oneself during adverse weather conditions.

Furthermore, considering that it was summer vacation for school children and students, the team sensitized the community about the potential hazards of children bathing alone in water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and ponds. They emphasized the importance of parental supervision and encouraged parents to ensure that their children have company while engaging in water-related activities, thereby reducing the risks associated with accidents and drowning.

The team also stressed the significance of mental strength and resilience among girls, advising parents to foster an environment that encourages girls to be mentally strong and empowers them to face challenges bravely. Additionally, they emphasized the critical need for parents and guardians to educate their children about the concept of good touch and bad touch, ensuring that children are aware of their rights and can identify and report any instances of abuse or inappropriate behavior.

Ultimately, the Perambalur District Police team, led by Mrs. S. Shyamladevi, aimed to ensure the safety and well-being of the people in the district. Their comprehensive and elaborate awareness campaign covered various aspects, ranging from immediate helpline assistance to combating drug addiction, understanding weather-related risks, promoting water safety, and empowering women and children to protect themselves.
